decorator apocalypse

Fabric, paper, paint, air dried clay, on mounted hardboard. Pieces are all 24" x 24"

A decorator's sensibility lives on in these collages. Tidily shaped with tasteful palettes, some subdued, some bold, surely they could liven up any space resurrected from the rubble. The history of fabrics is knotted and littered with bones; take Bangladeshi silk for example. The collages seem particularly suited to the world now with its genocides, corruptions, and obsessions with territory and profits. Humans are a remarkable species, but we've never been very nice, though some mumble about the better angels of our nature. When it comes to image, we're skillful at denial and we should not forget deceit is a well honed strategy that has a billion year history of evolutionary success. Lots of life is good at it, and perhaps we are remarkable for being exemplary at self deception. But I digress. These pieces could be fitting decor for the New Middle East Riviera dreamed up by the demented old felons with rapacious maws.
